===============

Meagan stared down at her desk. Her focus moved beyond the assignment in front of her without actually seeing what she was looking toward. There were lines, spaces of white, and blobs of writing, but nothing seemed important enough to consider closely.  Truthfully she didn’t care.

She didn’t feel the need to focus.
Her gaze slowly moved up to the front of the classroom, and again she fixated on a point past what was before her. She did not concentrate on the teacher. There was a face, a moving mouth, but she didn’t connect it with the sounds struggling slowly, like sticky sludge past her ears. She didn’t hear the instructions being uttered; each word fell on deaf ears as she mindlessly doodled.

Twisting her hair around her finger, she thought about how nice it would be to be at home, in bed, with the curtains closed instead of in this loud and hyper school. It seemed her classmates had recently started caring too much about what was going on around them. There was too much drama, too much noise, too much concern jumping all around her. It was all so taxing.

 It was such a bother.
Meagan, in contrast, was usually in a world of her own. Her head felt fuzzy most of the time, and unless she used a lot of energy, most conversations sounded muffled, like there was cotton in her ears. She didn’t feel the need to engage anymore. Her desire to try so hard just to do what had once come easily had dwindled to nothing. At first she’d tried, but not now. Not anymore. It had become too difficult to care.
And that was her biggest problem. Meagan didn’t care much about any of these changes. She was fine walking through school without any effort. Her feet felt a little heavier as each day passed, and her head felt a little more under pressure of a crushing fog that numbed her, but she pushed through it all. She didn’t mind neglecting what used to bring her excitement. In fact, it was just easier not to give a crap.
Everything was distinctly lackluster these days.

It's Finally Done!

Sorry I haven't been posting on the blog for the past few weeks but I've been busy working on the edits for Saving Cassie and getting the ending written for Ragan's Song. And it happened! Tonight I typed those words:

- THE END-

Now, it's on to the self-editing phase to get it cleaned up before I send it to my editor. An October release date is totally doable!!

So, be on the lookout the last half of September - I will be setting up Ragan's Song for pre-order!

Until next time...

J.J. DiBenedetto - Friday 5 #RockingSummerRomance

Today let's welcome J.J. DiBenedetto to Remenicky Writes!

Friday 5 questions:

1.       What is your favorite drink?

That depends.  In the morning, it’s orange juice.  Otherwise, if I’m treating myself, a chocolate (or, even better, chocolate and banana) milkshake.

2.       Where is your favorite vacation spot?

I’ve been three times to Mallorca, and it’s the most beautiful place I’ve ever visited.  Perfect climate (at least in December/January, which is when I was there), wonderful people, easy pace of life.  I could easily live there!

3.       Any pets? Tell us about them.

She’s not so much a pet, really, since she seems to be in charge of our household, but we’ve got a tortoise-shell cat named Daisy.  She wakes us when she thinks it’s time for us to get up; she makes it crystal clear when she thinks it’s bedtime, and so forth.

4.       What kind of music do you listen to?

Classical and opera, mainly.  There’s not much on my iPod that was written after the early part of the 20th century!

5.       What is your favorite car?

I actually don’t own one – we live in a very transit-friendly city and it’s easier (and cheaper) not to have one.  But as a kid, my uncle had a Jaguar XJ6 which was just gorgeous, and – when it wasn’t in the shop – ran like a dream.

About the Dream Series
What if you could see everyone else’s dreams?  That’s the question Sara has to wrestle with in the Dream Series.  We first meet her as a shy, bookish college student who doesn’t think there’s anything extraordinary about herself.  And then the dreams start…
Over the course of the series, Sara learns to live with these supernatural dreams and all the trouble they plunge her into.  At the same time, she grows from a student to a practicing doctor; and from a single girl to a wife and mother.  But every time she thinks she’s got everything figured out, life – and her extraordinary dreams – teach her that she’s always got more to learn…

Dream Home (book 7 in the Dream Series)
“Oh, my God, I’m not even starting the job for four months!  How can I have an enemy already?”
Sara thought she had found the perfect job, the perfect new house and the perfect place to build a bright future for herself and her family.
But her new life is not quite perfect.  Her husband and her children are fitting right in, but before Sara even shows up for her first day of work, her coworkers are dreaming about getting rid of her.
If that wasn’t bad enough, the one friend she’s made is dreaming nightly about a disaster that could wipe out the entire town…and Sara is beginning to think he might be right…
Dream Home is the exciting seventh book in the Dream Series.

Excerpt from Dream Home
Joshua begins to stir the moment we’re alone.  “Joshua, relax,” I say, when he tries and fails to sit up.  “You’re in the hospital.  You fell and hit your head.”
“Sara?”
I give him a bright smile.  “You remembered what to call me.  That’s a very good sign.  But I need to examine you.  I’m going to take off your gloves and unzip your coat so I can get a better look at you.”
“I haven’t had a woman try to take my clothes off since 1969,” he says, and I can’t tell from his expression whether that’s a joke or not.  He shrugs after a moment.  “Woodstock.”  For one ridiculous moment, I wonder, assuming he’s serious, if Aunt Kat was that woman.  She went to Woodstock, too.  Whenever I would ask her about it, she’d tell me that she had plenty of stories, but that I wasn’t old enough to hear them.
But that’s just silly.  Kat was in her early twenties, and Joshua would have been forty-six.  Besides, there were, what, a million people there?  “Really?”
“Really,” he says.  “I had to see Jefferson Airplane.  I had a thing for Grace Slick, what can I say?”
I have no idea how to respond to that.

J.J. (James) Dibenedetto's fans would swear he's got a sixth sense when it comes to seeing into the minds of others and often wonder if his stories could possibly be fiction. He enjoys suspending disbelief with suspenseful paranormal tales that are a perfect blend of reality meets fantasy.
His popular Dream Series continues to delight readers with each and every exciting installment.
Born in Yonkers, New York, he currently resides in Arlington Virginia with his beautiful wife and a cat he is sure has taken full advantage of its nine lives. When it comes to the cat, he often wonders, but then again it might just be his imagination.

4. What kind of music do you listen to?  I love tenors like Josh Groban,Il Divo, and Mario Frangoulis.  Violinist David Garrett, cellist Yo-Yo Ma.  I'm not so much a fan of classical music as I am of the sounds of the instruments.

Jane's Book:

BLURB

Their affair was scorchingly sensual

Faye Burke, recently widowed, retreated to the coast of Maine to grieve and reassess her future. Her favorite part of the day is watching the sun rise out of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s also when the man she considers her guilty pleasure runs along the beach.

Gil Farrelly, a successful painter, is trying to get his career back on track after the studio fire that destroyed everything. He starts his creative juices flowing every day by running on the beach. The lovely woman who watches him also gets his juices flowing and he’s determined to reinvent his career by painting her.

Faye’s combination of maturity and sensual vulnerability intrigue Gil and he wants to immortalize her on his canvas. She’s flattered, aroused and ultimately frightened of the emotions he incites. He claims not to care he’s younger by twelve years but she believes sooner or later he’ll come to his senses and seek out women his own age. Can Faye conquer her fears? Can Gil prove to her it’s not age separating them but her fear?

A PROMISE AT DAWN by Jane Leopold Quinn

PG EXCERPT

With a clatter of easels, boxes of paints and glass jars of brushes, Gil set up on her porch. A stiff breeze swept across the space but a rattan wind screen at one end did a good job of protecting them. The day had started out cloudy and threatening rain and still held that promise. He had work to do before he could give in to the weather.
Faye had greeted him at the door, looking almost as adorable as she'd looked the night before. Today she wore light makeup and left her hair loose and wavy the way he'd asked her to. Denim cropped pants and a tight red sweater made her look like a teenager. She had to be in her early forties but it didn't matter to him. She was very attractive no matter her age. "Let's get started, shall we Faye?"
"Would you like some coffee or something else to drink?"
"Not right now but I'll take you up on that later, okay? Why don't you stand over there." He indicated the corner of the porch. "Lean one hip on the railing." When he came close, he was enthralled by the warm vanilla fragrance infusing her hair. He lifted a hand to touch the cloud-soft mass. She stilled, then shivered as if waiting for him to make a move. He wrapped his fingers in the silky strands.
She uttered a little cry, more of a whimper. Her lips parted, her eyes widened and met his with a flustered look. At that moment he wanted her fiercely. Before he'd known anything about her, she'd seemed fragile. He didn't know much more now but a woman who still wore her wedding ring a year and a half after her husband's death must have loved him very much. A woman like that would have depths of emotion.
He'd thought he was in pain from losing his studio and his work but Faye's was far more significant. He didn't want to see her grieve any longer but all he knew for sure was that he wanted to paint her for himself. He envisioned the scene in his mind. She was perfect for it. All that was left was to do her justice. Was it because he wanted to capture her beauty on canvas or because she got his juices flowing faster than any running could? He knew it was both.
He rested his forefinger under her chin and turned her face toward him. Giving her his most soothing smile, he said, "Relax, Faye, this won't hurt a bit. Now I'm going over there." He pointed toward his easel. "You're going to lean here." He tapped the railing. "And I'll start some sketches."
She gazed up at him with those incredible turquoise eyes, her confusion and longing speaking to him, raspberry-shaded lips pursed slightly. Mmm, the thought roared through his mind. Kiss her.
It's too soon.
She's not ready.
Just paint her.

Amazon Reviews

"Good short story! Faye and Gil have very hot chemistry, and their story is heartwarming. I was surprised at the character development in such a short offering. Faye had suffered such a huge loss, and we were drawn in along on her new path in life."

"Ms Quinn paints a detailed portrait of a woman re-awakening after the loss of her husband. Her emotional state is handled quite deftly. This story has pathos, passion and humor woven together. Gil and Faye's story unfolds quickly and it's a scorcher."

Bio

Sensual fantasies were locked in my mind for years until a friend said, "Why don't you write them down?" Why not, indeed? One spiral notebook, a pen and the unleashing of my imagination later, and here I am with more than a dozen books published. The craft of writing erotic romance has become my passion and my niche in life. I love every part of the creative process — developing characters, designing the plot, even drawing the layout of physical spaces from my stories. My careers have been varied — third grade school teacher, bookkeeper, secretary — none of which gave me a bit of inspiration. But now I'm lucky enough to write romance full time — the best job in the universe!

Title: The Inheritance

Blurb: The Inheritance is about the chance we all long for…the chance to start over. Widowed at age thirty-nine and suffering from empty nest syndrome, Rebecca Sinclair is overshadowed by grief and loneliness.  Her husband has been deceased for a year, her oldest child has moved to New York in pursuit of an acting career and her youngest child is attending college in France. Having spent over half of her life as a wife and mother, she has no idea what God has in store for her now.  Will an unexpected inheritance in the wine country of New York bring meaning and purpose to her life and give her the courage to love again?
US Postal worker Raymond Jacobey has been in love with the little widow since he first set eyes on her.  A wanderer searching for the ever-illusive soul mate, Ray has never stayed in one place too long. Raised by self-centered, high-power executives, he’s longed for the idyllic life of residing in a cozy house in a small town with the love of his life. Will he gain the heart of the lovely widow or will he lose her to the wine country of New York?

Excerpt: Rebecca’s heart fluttered at the charming, boyish grin he bestowed on her. She knew he’d spoken more than mere words; he’d spoken his heart. Tears filled her eyes and clogged her throat when she thought about what the future might hold. Standing on the threshold of that great unknown, she had never been more acutely aware of anything than she was of this moment, this man.
He was looking at her intently. His thumbs caressed the back of her hands, chasing the chill from her blood. Lethargic warmth stole over her. As though in a fog she watched him lift her hands to his mouth and press his lips to her palm in a caress so tender it sent shivers down her spine.
She lowered her gaze, and he lifted her chin with his finger and waited until she looked at him again. “I want to kiss you, Becca, here in the midst of Paradise,” he whispered, his lips covering hers with devastating tenderness.
Rebecca heard his primitive grunt of satisfaction when he let go of her hands and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer. An answering purr escaped her as tiny pinpoints of pleasure bathed her senses with light and color. Never in her life had she felt so alive, so consumed with sensations.
Whether a moment or an eternity, she had no idea how long they stood there, his mouth in sweet possession of hers. All she knew was that when the kiss was over she was plastered against his hard body, her breathing was sharp almost painful and her fists were clenched in his thick, sandy-colored hair. Appalled at her wanton response and the needy way in which she clung, Rebecca flung away with a startled cry of distress, and began to run.

Will Zelinger #RockingSummerRomance

Are you ready for another #RockingSummerRomance post?

Say hello to Will Zeilinger. I love the title of his book: The Naked Groom!

Tiffany Stonebridge is in love with aspiring chef, Richard Grainger. She rocks his world every chance she gets which leads him to max out his plastic on a ring that would light up the night sky. Richard promises her a honeymoon in Tahiti if only to impress Mr. Stonebridge.

With no way to pay for any of this, Richard secretly takes a second job as a nude artist's model. Tiffany and her rich family can never find out or things could get very ugly.

His life gets more complicated when he meets Clarise Simpson, another artist’s model…a naked one.  Their friendship goes from zero to bed in a blink.  Richard battles his feelings for both women.

Richard’s friend leaves a big old hound dog with and splits. When he misses a couple of Stonebridge family gatherings, her father thinks Richard might be babysitting someone else besides a dog.

Excerpt
Clarise hit him hard on the arm.  If I didn't keep one hand on the front door and the other in my pocket, I probably would have decked him.  My mother always taught me that restraint took more discipline and strength than muscle... lucky for him.

"Sure, Ha ha, whatever." I shook my head and went out to my truck.  Clarise came running outside, calling my name.

She caught up to me as I was getting into my truck.

"I'm sorry about Brandon.  He's such a jerk sometimes."

"Don't worry about it." I told her, "I'm sure there's something nice about him...seeya next week." It was considerate of her to be concerned.

I closed the door and started the engine.  In my mirror, I could see Brandon waiting by the door with his arms folded across his chest.  As I shifted the truck into gear, Clarise walked back to him with her arms folded.  I didn't want to get in the middle of that.  I just hope he didn't think there was something going on between us.  Why would he?  Everything that was going on was going on inside of me.

Tiffany was waiting for me at her place with, what looked like, a pile of literature from every wedding planner and banquet facility in Southern California.  She was excited that something tangible was happening on the road to the wedding.  I realized this was the most important day of her life, but for both of us it will be - as the old saying goes, the first day of the rest of our lives.  What I was beginning to realize was that I didn't know very much about my intended, except she liked to shop and have sex.  For most men, the second item would've been enough and the first could've easily been a pain in the wallet.

She'd cleared off the coffee table in the family room and arranged the literature in some kind of an order, I suspect, known only to her.

"Okay Richie," she looked at me like a first grade teacher on the first day of class.  "Here's what I've researched..."

I put my hand on hers.  "Tiffany, before we go any further with our wedding plans, we need to talk." Her eyes grew very wide and she started to turn pale.  "Tiffany!  breathe..." I rubbed her back.  She gasped and ran to the kitchen, "I need a drink of water." I got up from the loveseat and followed her.  She gulped down a full tumbler of ice water and closed her eyes.  Just as I began to speak, she held up her hand.  "Just a minute Richard - before you say anything else, just answer me this... Are you breaking up with me?"

"What?" I had no idea she was this insecure about our relationship.  "No, No.  It's nothing like that."

SHORT BIO:
I’ve been writing for over twelve years. During that time, I took novel writing classes and joined writer’s groups, but what has helps me most are published authors who mentor, encourage, critique  and listen to me while I continue to learn my craft.  I live in Southern California with my wife and are currently working on a crime novel together. Finding time to write while life happens is a challenge.

Lyndi Lamont - Friday 5 #RockingSummerRomance

Lyndi Lamont is joining us here on Remenicky Writes for Friday 5!

1.       What is your favorite drink?

Iced coffee

2.       Where is your favorite vacation spot?

Monterey Peninsula, California

3.       Any pets? Tell us about them.

No, sadly no pets anymore, but I do love dogs. When I was a kid we had a border collie mix named Lucky who was half blind after surviving a bout of distemper and walked in circles. My dad found him and brought him home and I thought I was the luckiest kid alive. The neighbors got no end of amusement out of him walking in circles all the time, but he had no trouble running in a straight line when chasing a cat!

4.       What kind of music do you listen to?

I like lots of different kinds of music—folk, rock, pop, and sometimes classical. But for writing, I like to listen to movie soundtracks that are all or mostly instrumental. Sense and Sensibility is a favorite.

5.       What is your favorite car?

We have a 2003 Acura TL and it’s still the best car I’ve ever owned, both comfortable and powerful.

How To Woo…A Reluctant Bride—Lyndi Lamont

A marriage of convenience, nothing more…until darkly handsome Evan Channing and demure Lydia Blatchford meet. The rules are simple for such an arrangement. No expectations, no illusions of anything more. But the rules are about to change…

Excerpt from How To Woo…A Reluctant Bride—Lyndi Lamont, steamy Victorian romance:

She licked her lips then plunged ahead. “I know how these things work. Arranged marriages, that is. I won’t expect fidelity from you.”

His shocked expression surprised her. “Is that what you think, Lydia? That I’m marrying you with the intention of cheating on you?”

“Perhaps not now,” she said. “But in a few years… It’s not as if ours is a love match. I won’t cut up a fuss if you decide to take a mistress. As long as you are discreet.”

“How very… sophisticated of you,” he said, his tone dry enough to parch a desert.

She took a deep breath before continuing. “And once I’ve produced the requisite heir and spare, I assume I’ll be free to seek my pleasure elsewhere.”

The thunderous look on his face startled her and she stepped back.

“You will do no such thing,” he said fiercely, reaching for her. “Ours may not be a love match now, but I fully intend to see it turns into one.”

With that, he pulled her into his embrace, trapping her arms between them as his encircled her shoulders and waist.

Covering her mouth with his, he kissed her with a heady combination of passion and anger. Her resistance crumbled in the face of his onslaught. She clutched at his lapels and returned his kiss, even parting her lips when his tongue probed them. Overwhelmed by the sensations his lips provoked, she let her eyes drift shut as she clung to him.

When he let her go, he was still visibly upset. “There will be no more talk of infidelity. Have I made myself clear, Lydia?”
