Calling All Readers And Bloggers - You Could Win!

As I pondered what my topic should be for my blog post this week, I started thinking about my author platform and how I am marketing myself and my book.

I have over 1,500 Likes on my Facebook page, I am slowly building my circles on Google+, and I am trying to gather followers on my blog. How can I translate that into book sales? I am just starting out so I don't have much money for promotion and I have to make every dollar spent count.

That is my question to all of you readers and bloggers out there: what entices you to buy a book written by an author you haven't read? Was it the cover, review, or a blog post? Or was it something else? I really want and need to know...

Answer in a comment on this blog post and I will choose a random answer to win a $5 Amazon gift card on Sunday, November 3. Please include your email so I can contact you if you are the winner.

Let me know your thoughts. You could be the winner! Please share, if I get more than 20 comments I will add another $5 gift card - yes, that would be two winners! Only one comment per person please.

Don't forget to click on the Goodreads Giveaway tab and enter the giveaway. You could win a paperback copy of Saving Cassie!

  1. For me, before trying a book by an author I don't know I read the blurb/synopsis and check out the reviews (both on Amazon and by book review bloggers). An eye-catching cover helps, but for me the blurb is more important. Oh, and the blurb needs to be detailed enough to give me a good idea of the storyline-I hate when they say one thing, but then you start reading and it turns into something totally different. But definitely blurb and reviews. Hope this helps :-) moonangel23 at gmail dot com

  2. Honestly, the first thing I notice is the cover. An unattractive cover usually turns me away from the book. Sounds shallow, I know, but it's the truth. But, the most important thing is the synopsis...if it sounds interesting, I'll typically check it out. I do read reviews from others and those influence me as well, but a great cover and synopsis go a long way! Hope that helps :)

  3. Reading about a book on a blog can certainly help. It shows that the author and the blogger cared enough to put the time and effort into preparing the blog post. A giveaway shows the author is committed to getting the book out there, not just making sales. The blurb and an excerpt are a good way for the reader to find out if they like the subject matter and your writing style. Good editing is very important to me as a reader. Great cover art helps as well; it's hard to get past a bad cover.

  5. I don't have a specific method but it can be 1 thing or a combination of 3 things:
The Cover (If its eye catching or amazing I will get it anyway), the blurb and if I read a few review from fellow bloggers or on good reads (You can't always only trust 1 review, so I check out a few). All the best with your book and hope all the tips help :)
